Yes, happily existing, waiting for the end, so I was thinking, like, what's the use of being right as a Profit of Doom? Like you still lose the lot, too late, I wonder how may profits of doom from the histories of mankind's failed civilisations there were, so many of the wise blowin in the wind... Lots I bet... So I only have from the Eighties on about my green credentials, like Gaia was one of the first mentions I spose, so early eighties I was ranting, but even further back than that, cause I saw the Death Nell of local manufacturing as well, and then saw the rape of Australia from the contemporary politics, and then way back to the first inhabitants, those humans with fire sticks who burnt the place to a crisp, all that destruction of forests and giant ancient fauna, the invading eucalypts and the then the Empire cleared it for farms... Stole it, murdered for it, and cleared and burnt out the stumps, so I seen the whole sorry mess right before my eyes and then the cars and gases, so Profit Of Dooming was always my forte, and when it all comes true, who is there to pat you on the shoulder and say you were right, and even if they did, so what?
Bad news prevails from the Profits of Doom, now we have global heating, air pollution, rivers drying dying, deforestation, weed invasions, pests invasions, erosion, desertification, ice caps melting, sea level rises, mass migrations, devastating storms, freaky weather events, the death throes of a once majestic web of life, extinctions, loss of habitat, animal migrations, plants unable to cope, and never ending bush fires scorching the life out of the bush, and then there's the electricity and fuels for civilisation, the politics of water and which way to go, they keep saying all options are open, but nuclear is the fraudulent one, and Co2 sequestration is also a fraud...
The small scale individual power from home installations would seem to be less dangerous and why not, specially in Australia, but I still believe the best long term option is Geo-Thermal to tap the heat of the interior, the thin crust has to be penetrated and super heated water used to drive electricity generators, that has to be top of the list... Then solar...
But why not some other storage methods. Like I used to dream up options like huge massive flywheels spinning, which get sped up during sunlight, and then draw power off in the dark... Maybe even smaller flywheels in series, could all be manufactured by Aussie kids, who could also re-install the trams and do the manufacturing and maintenance...
Talk of siting the Desalinization of Sea Water for Sydney and nuclear power plant obviously is the Sydney Opera House Site, and nuclear storage in Kirribilli House over the water, what could be better iconically as well, it's handy and central and any security risks wont matter cause it's all built out and not many animals at risk from habitat ruin, cept for humans, but they're only mad Sydneyites all Globalised and foreign any way, and it might stop more immigrants arriving and drinking our waters...
The War on Religion is so enjoyable, there's so much going on at last, and tonight the old Madeline O'Hare story of her life, the Atheist who had prayer taken out of public schools, what a hero... And then there's the Brights, we are all Brights, to be sane and clear headed and having commonsense and denying all the religious claptrap means you are Bright, and not dull and stupid and crass and dopey, and all that other senseless crap, so I think it's time that the religious should zip up their lips and the Bright Atheists can speak out and say we don't have any dumb god superstitions interfering in our lives...
Heard Dr Tim Flannery last night, he's the Australian of the Year, and now he's chief spook on the Profit of Doom, saying how the Climate has already gone too far in the runaway feedback loop and civilised life will change, there will be trouble, but the Big But was his selling of the Geo-Thermal idea, to put another huge Snowy Mountains Authority together to develop the Cooper Basin and build a new energy grid and get off the coal and oil and fossil fuel addiction, and then he has that clear headed view of it all...
And Dr Tim Flannery also has that warning about accepting sacrifices to come, it's a word that has almost disappeared in the selfish right wing politics of the neo-conservative devilry, so the sacrifices will come, and who will willingly sacrifice but the good-hearted folk, while the goofy godlies will pray or some such useless response... If only there weren't so many useless religious twits running things in the Neo-Con Aussie Government, the Little Scrambled Egghead came out the other day and said the jury was still out, what a dope sitting up there on the Humpty Dumpty fence with George Dubya-Dubya-III , oh for a turkey shoot...
